Effects of Home Schooling
I home schooled my son from the time he entered 4th grade all the way to 12th grade. Looking back , I have to say this is the best decision I could have made and will never regret it. Home schooling is a lot of work especially as a single, working mom. But my child was worth it.
I worked as a Dental Hygienist and fortunately I could pretty much choose the days and hours I wanted to work. I guess you could say I chose hours over benefits.
It seems the public schools are not set up to handle any child that is different in any way including learning speed and learning style. All children love to learn but it has to be interesting. Even adults fall asleep in class with a boring instructor. Home Schooling can provide so much hands on that makes any subject interesting.
One subject that Home Schoolers out learn public school children is politics and government. I have seen this over and over. A very boring subject to many sitting in a class room becomes very exciting when going to the capitol or sitting in a court room hearing and witnessing a real case. Our children choose what they want to be in life based on what they have seen and experienced and looked up to. And so I have raised an attorney, a handsome young man that sticks up for his rights and although addresses police officers as “sirs” will tell them what the law is and what his rights are.
Texas is very pro home schooling. If you have a strong interest in home schooling consider moving to the great state of Texas. Our economy is still good, housing market is slow but not as bad as the rest of the country.
