Musical language
As early in the 16th century, the Holy Roman Emperor – Charles V ever told that he spoken Spanish with God, French with men, German with his horses, but Italian with women since though this beautiful language can express many subtleties of feeling and thought. Today, Italian is still considered one of most musical languages in the world. Millions of travels, students, businessmen and people with other purposes are have great passion to lean Italian as their second or third language.
In fact, Italian is a Romance language, but is the closest to Latin of any of other Romance languages. Italian is not only used by Italians, it is one of four official languages in Switzerland, the official language of San Marino, as well as primary language in Vatican City.
There were two critical moments in the history of Italian language development. Both events were invasions between 1500 and 1850. The first is the rulers of Spain invaded and conquered Italy in the mid 16th century. This invasion left a lasting influence on Italian grammar. Another was the occupation of Italy by Napoleon in 19th century. During this war period, Italian language was further reducing regional dialects in order to increase the united nature of the Italians.
Modern Italian also called standard Italian is base on Tuscan language and formed after the unification of Italy. Italian language development was heavily influenced by Latin and also by some Italian dialects. There are more than 1,500 dialects existed alongside the official Italian language until recently. And most of dialects are only communicated inside certain villages and regions. Dialect is still used among old generations in their hometown, but it’s much less popular in young people’s life. Though education system and television, official Italian is truly became the national language.
