Conjunction is a word used in sentences a part of speech to joint two sentences. In simple, conjunction used to adjoin two simple sentences. There are single words conjunctions such as AND, AFTER, BUT, BECAUSE, BEFORE, FOR, IF, IT, LEST, OR, TILL, THAT, SINCE, STILL, UNLESS, UNTIL, WHETHER, WHEN, WHILE, they are used to connect two simple sentences, AND is the one conjunction which adjoins two words like nouns or two pronouns.

The two or more words conjunctions that are called conjunctional duos and conjunctional pairs. Conjunctional duos are two words, their duty in a sentence as a part of speech is to adjoin two simple sentences. Important conjunctional duos are as follows: Either…or, both…and, neither…nor, no sooner…than, though…yet, whether…or.

Now we will see about conjunctional idioms and their use in the sentences.

Now we will see the explanation of each conjunctional idiom one by one.

1. AS SOON AS: This is a conjunctional idiom used in a sentence in the meaning of “at once” or “immediately”. This is used in the sentences in which an action to be done immediately after another specific action happens.

Example:

i. Please repay your payments to our bank AS SOON AS possible.

ii. He kissed his wife AS SOON AS he enters home.

iii. She got pregnant AS SOON AS she gets married.

2. AS WELL AS: This conjunctional phrase is used to denote a condition of happening adjoining with another condition that is two unrelated events happened one by one at the same time.

Example:

i. The patient got upper respiratory infection AS WELL AS arthritis of his knees.

ii. She is beautiful girl AS WELL AS intelligent.

3. AS FAST AS: This conjunctional phrase means ‘do an action at maximum speed possible’.

Example:

i. Before your annual examinations complete all your lessons AS FAST AS you can.

ii. Please cook the food AS FAST AS you can so that I can reach my office in time.

4. AS CLOSE AS: This conjunctional phrase is used to denote a condition of being a thing very close to other thing.

Example:

i. The patient was lied down AS CLOSE AS to the oxygen cylinder to adjust the space in the table.

ii. He pulled the rope near the window and went AS CLOSE AS to kill the cockroach near it.

5. SO THAT: This conjunctional duo is used in a sentence to stress a condition of achievement of something by doing something. i.e. doing one action to achieve something as a product of it.

Example:

i. I am studying my lessons daily SO THAT I can get the first rank in the annual examination.

ii. S.J. Surya joined as an assistant director SO THAT he can become a film director in the future.

6. AS ATTRACTIVELY AS: This conjunctional phrase is used to compare how much one thing is attractive to another one, which is also attractive.

Example:

i. Aishwarya rai is AS ATTRACTIVELY AS Diana Heiden.

7. AS IF: This is used informally to indicate a condition of an unreality or unlikely in a sentence, which may a state of imagination too.

Example:

i. Sundar is delivering dialogues in the drama AS IF he is Sivaji Ganesan.

ii. He stunned AS IF he saw a snake.

iii. The earth surface was shaken AS IF there was an earth quake.

8. AS THOUGH: This is used informally to indicate a condition of an unreality or unlikely in a sentence, which may a state of imagination too.

ii. Maradona is a short man, EVEN THOUGH his football playing is great.

10. EVEN IF: This conjunctional idiom is used to denote the meaning of ‘despite the fact that’.

Example:

i. EVEN IF he is a poor student, he got the first mark in the state level examination.

11. PROVIDED THAT: This conjunctional phrase means one action will happen if it obeys one condition.

i. The company is ready to give the job PROVIDED THAT the employee must sign a 900-day bond signed.

ii. John was ready to marry Jenny PROVIDED THAT her parents must give him 2 crore dollars to pay his unsolved debts.

12. AS FAR AS…CONCERNED: This conjunctional idiom is used to denote the attitude of one about a particular thing.

i. AS FAR AS my wife CONCERNED, she is not interested in doing any job.

ii. AS FAR AS I am CONCERNED, my company will be opened soon.

13. IN SO FAR…CONCERNED: This conjunctional idiom is used to denote the attitude of one about a particular thing.

i. IN FAR AS my wife CONCERNED, she is not interested in doing any job.

ii. IN FAR AS I am CONCERNED, my company will be opened soon.

14. IN AS MUCH AS: This conjunctional phrase means ‘because’.

Example:

i. IN AS MUCH AS the theatre was houseful, we decided to go circus.

ii. IN AS MUCH AS no sugar in my kitchen, I used jaggery to mix coffee.
